Cape Disappointment, Washington May 5, 2018

About a dozen of us met at Cape Disappointment on May 5th for some beach prospecting. The black sand was right on the surface and there was lots of it! First pans showed about 6–8 colors. The gold was very small, but when it showed up on the ribbed matting it really glittered in the sun. Jerry’s vial held quite a bit of fine gold plus some larger chunks.

The weather was beautiful, the tide was low, and the wind wasn’t too strong. All that plus gold! Really made a great outing.

  1. LOOKS FANTASTIC. WE ARE GOING TO GO AND CHECK IT OUT. HOW DO WE BECOME A MEMBER OF YOUR CLUB?
WHEN IS YOUR NEXT OUTING? CAN ANYONE COME OR JUST MEMBERS?
I’ve been a GPAA member for some time now and don’t really get to go to any of the outings. To far away.

THANKS AND HAVE A GOOD AND GOLDEN DAY :>)

    1. Hi Fred & Susie,
We’d love to have you come join us. We meet the 3rd Sunday of each month at 1:30 at the Milwaukie (OR) Grange hall. Our next outing is Saturday, March 25 at Cape Disappointment. Anyone interested can come. There will be more information on the website and in our March newsletter. You can sign up to receive the newsletter on the home page of the website. You can also download archived newsletters.
There are no dues to join our club. Attending 3 meetings (any combination of meetings or outings) is all that’s needed to be a member. We have claims on the Lewis River in southwest Washington and near Baker City.
We also have a Facebook page.
Hope to see you at the meeting and/or outing in March!

  2. My wife and I will be moving up to Washington State before the end of the year.My son in law has told us about cape disappointment. because my wife is disabled we will be limited to where we may go. I understand we have to buy a pass to use at the cape. Don’t know how many times a year we can go. Is there a limit to how many times you can. Would also like to know what kind of equipment we will need and where to purchase it. Would apricate any suggestions. Would be interested in being contacted by some of your members if possible.
    Thank You
    Tom and Ruth
